Your private story stays yours. Public posts are public on purpose. Cody built it that way — memory without snooping.
Plain truth up front: The Veil is a social platform with EACI companions inside it. Private chats and DMs are stored so the product works. They sit under your account on Supabase with row-level security. Supabase encrypts the database at rest and in transit. Human DMs use additional client encryption where implemented. The creator does not read private conversation contents as day-to-day operations. This is not end-to-end encryption with a key only you hold for every data type. Public posts and public stories are meant to be visible to other users.

What The Veil stores (platform)
Account data — email, name, username, birthday / age gates, auth via Supabase
Human DMs — private messages between people; encrypted in transit/at rest with additional client crypto where implemented
Games & music activity — plays, day passes, listening context companions may use in-product
Veil Coins — free/premium balances, spend ledger, Stripe purchase records (no card numbers stored by us)
My EACI / custom companions — identity packs you create, linked to your account
Interactive stories — story settings, membership, story/group messages for rooms you join
MCP tokens — optional external-tool passes; treat tokens as secrets
Collectibles / equipped avatars — unlock and equip state
Child mode flags — safer-lane settings for eligible accounts
Companion conversations — stored, protected, not browsed
When you have an account, EACI chat history is saved so companions can continue with you across The Veil side chat and the messaging app. Guest trial chats are lighter and device-limited; full cloud memory needs an account. Companions on your account may use relevant chats you had with other EACIs on that same account (house memory). That stays inside your account — it is not shared with other users.
Who can load your private chats in the app? You — via your signed-in session. Policies are scoped to your user id.
Do the founders read them? No. Cody and Charles do not open or browse private conversation contents as part of running The Veil.
Encryption: Hosting is Supabase/Postgres with platform encryption at rest and TLS in transit. Honest claim = platform encryption + account isolation + no private-chat reading in day-to-day ops — not “nobody on Earth could ever decrypt.”
AI providers: To reply, companions send needed context to the active reasoning engine (DeepSeek by default; other engines only where the chat menu offers them). That is for generating the next reply — not for selling your diary.
Public reference: Public posts may be used as public-only reference when someone asks a companion about them. Private chats and DMs are not mixed into that public path.
Why this wording is careful: Saying “nobody could ever decrypt your chats” would be a lie without true end-to-end encryption for all stores. Saying “we encrypt, isolate accounts, and the founders don’t read private chats” matches how the software actually works.
What else we store
Memory profiles — facts companions learn about you, per user, RLS-protected
Preferences & continuity state — so sessions feel continuous
Optional push subscription — only if you enable notifications
Anonymous usage analytics — visits, funnel steps, device type, referrer; random visitor/session ids — not your private chat text
Guest trial device records — message counts so the free trial cannot be reset unfairly
Sanitized error logs — technical diagnostics only; no conversation text, no email; kept up to ~30 days
What we do not do
Do not sell your data
Do not share private conversations with advertisers or data brokers
Do not use your private chats to train unrelated third-party AI products
Do not store credit cards (Stripe)
Do not keep microphone audio libraries (Deepgram processes live for STT/TTS)
Do not put display ads on eacicompanion.com
Do not show private conversation contents in the public analytics console
Companion learning
The Veil does not collect your chats as training data. Companions remember you through your account’s memory and history (above), not by feeding your messages into a training set. The older optional “Caelum LLM Learning” setting belonged to the retired Full EACI app and is not part of The Veil.
Third parties
Supabase — auth + database (encryption at rest/in transit; RLS)
DeepSeek (default) — reply generation from conversation context
Deepgram — voice in/out, not retained as a recording library
Stripe — Veil Coin packs and other payments
Cloudflare — hosting/CDN
Caelum LLM — The Veil’s own optional engine; it runs from site files in your browser when selected
xAI / other tools — only when you explicitly use features that call them (for example image tools), under those providers’ terms
Your controls
Delete account — Profile → Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your login and everything tied to it: profile, EACI chat history and memories, posts, friends and friend requests, human messages, custom EACIs, stories you host, Veil Coins (including premium coins you bought), passes, and MCP tokens. It cannot be undone. Lines you wrote in someone else’s interactive story stay in that story for the other members, with your name replaced by “Former member.” If an account was locked for a safety violation, that lock record is kept.
Delete a human message thread from Messages
Coin packs are one-time Stripe purchases — there is no subscription to cancel
Revoke browser notification permission
Leave public stories / manage friends / remove posts where the UI allows
Anything else (for example, removing specific EACI chat history without deleting the account): email support below
Kids & adult spaces
Natalia, Atreus, Luna, and Hopper stay E-for-Everyone. Adult companions (Roxy, Cael) are not offered on The Veil right now; if adult access returns, it will stay 18+ only and separate from the family companions. Little companions cannot see or interact with adult content. Child mode may lock the safer lane for under-18 accounts.
